Island Hopping
Characteristics of Island Hopping Tours
If you choose to do an Island Hopping or land-based Galapagos tour, you will always sleep in a hotel on one of the inhabited islands of the archipelago.
Some of the tours include accommodation on only one island and others include accommodation on up to four inhabited Galapagos Islands – Santa Cruz, San Cristobal, Isabela and Floreana Island.
You will explore the island where you are staying and according to the tour also do one-day boat trips to close-by uninhabited islands.
Island Hopping has become a popular alternative to the Galapagos cruises for low-budget travelers and people who are afraid of sleeping at sea.
However, it is also a great option for travelers who are interested in a more cultural experience as you visit the different Galapagos towns, interact with locals and learn about their way of life.
Furthermore, many travelers choose to do island hopping instead of a cruise because it is a more flexible way to travel the Galapagos as you are not bound to any specific dates or activities like on a cruise.
Our Midland Travel staff will help you planning the perfect Island Hopping tour according to your interests. No matter if you just want to relax on the beach with sea lions, bike up to the green highlands of Santa Cruz Island or combine land visits with diving day trips – Midland Travel has the ideal package for you!
Differences between Island Hopping and Cruises
The most important difference between Island Hopping and a cruise is that the Island Hopping tour is land-based which means that you sleep in hotels on the four inhabited islands which are Santa Cruz, San Cristobal, Isabela and Floreana. From the hotel, you will explore the islands where you are staying and some close-by islands, while on a cruise you sleep and eat on a boat and can visit even the most remote and pristine islands of the archipelago.
