ITINERARY
Day 1 – Welcome to Peru!
Upon your arrival to Lima airport, your driver will welcome you and take you to your hotel in the Barranco neighborhood. Lima’s bohemian district offers spectacular sea views and features many historic mansions, art galleries and restaurants.Check in at the hotel and accommodation.

Day 2 – Experiencing Gastronomy and Culture in Lima
Lima is Latin America’s unrivaled capital of gastronomy and the Peruvian Cuisine is part of the national identity. This is why, today, you join a cooking class and learn how to prepare traditional Peruvian dishes. After enjoying your self-made lunch, your guide will pick you up and you start exploring Lima.Peru was the most important viceroyalty of the Spanish Empire and the Spanish influence can be seen in the historic center of Lima. The architecture is dominated by old streets and colonial mansions with Moorish balconies. While touring colonial Lima, you observe the Paseo de la República road and visit the San Martin Square. The main attraction is the Plaza Mayor where the Government Palace, the Archbishop’s Palace, the Basilica Cathedral and the Municipality are located.
You continue to the modern areas of Lima, visiting two traditional residential areas of the Peruvian capital: San Isidro and Miraflores. Finally, you stop at the shopping mall and contemporary tourist center Larcomar that lies in front of the sea.

Day 3 - Cuzco and Nearby Ruins
After an early breakfast in the hotel, your driver will take you to the airport for your flight from Lima (500 ft / 150 m) to Cuzco (11,152 ft / 3,399 m).Welcome in Cuzco and transfer to the hotel. Depending on your flight schedule, you have some time to relax at the hotel and enjoy a traditional “mate de coca” tea that helps with the acclimatization.
In the afternoon, you explore Cuzco and some Inca ruins close-by. First, you visit the Plaza de Armas, the heart of modern and Inca Cuzco where you can admire the cathedral amongst others. Afterwards, your guide takes you to the Santo Domingo Church and Qoricancha, the Inca temple of the sun.
Then, you head to the Inca fortress Sacsayhuaman, which impresses with its monumental scale and beauty. The next stop is Qenko, an excellent example for the Inca “rock worship” because of its artfully carved rocks. You continue to the Puca Pucara ruins, from where you enjoy a stunning view of Cuzco and its surroundings. The fourth and last ruin you visit today is Tambomachay, which is commonly referred to as the Inca baths.
Return to Cuzco and accommodation in the hotel.

Day 4 – The Sacred Valley of the Incas
Today you join an excursion to the Sacred Valley of the Incas that is located in the Urubamba Valley between Pisac and Ollantaytambo.After breakfast, your guide picks you up and you travel to the town of Pisac. On the way, you can appreciate the Andean landscapes including the Vilcanota River Canyon. Pisac is famous for its artisan market, where you can bargain with the indigenous vendors and buy souvenirs. After the visit to the market, you drive to a restaurant to enjoy a delicious lunch with local ingredients while observing a traditional horse show.
In the afternoon, you continue your journey to Ollantaytambo, which is known as the living Inca city because it is the best still-existing example of Inca city planning and its residents are direct descendants of the people who inhabited the Inca Empire. The Inca fortress and citadel of Ollantaytambo were built to protect the entrance to the Sacred Valley from invasion. Imagine how a military, agricultural and religious center looked like during the Inca Empire by climbing the fortress’s terraces and strolling through the town’s streets that remain in their original state.
On the way back to Cuzco, you visit the picturesque Andean town called Chincheros. Here, you can admire a well-preserved Inca wall at the main square, a colonial temple that was built on Inca foundations and the ruins of Tupac Inca Yupanqui’s royal hacienda.

Day 5 – Machu Picchu
After an early breakfast, your driver takes you to the train station where you board the Hiram Bingham Train. Indulge yourself in a magical journey aboard this 1920-style luxury train. While enjoying exquisite food and live entertainment on board, the train passes beautiful Andean landscapes.After approximately 3.5 hours, you arrive at Aguas Calientes, from where you take a 20-minute bus ride to the “Lost City of the Incas” – Machu Picchu. You join a guided tour to explore and learn about the different areas of the citadel including the main plaza, the circular tower, the sacred sundial, the royal quarters, the temple with the three windows and various burial grounds. After the tour is finished, you can wander around Machu Picchu and take pictures at your leisure.
At the lodge close to the ruins, you enjoy a delightful buffet-style lunch before heading back to the train station at Aguas Calientes. You board the Hiram Bingham train and initiate your classy train ride back to Cuzco.
