Mashpi Lodge is favorably located in the midst of forested mountains. The private reserve expands over 1,200 hectares (3,000 acres) and altitudes from 500 to 1,200 meters (1,650-3,950 feet) above sea level. Due to this exceptional location, you will not only explore cloud forest but also lower montane rainforest during your visit.
Through your stay, you contribute directly to the local community, the conversation of the forest and the deeper understanding of its flora and fauna.

ITINERARY
Mashpi Lodge offers a wide portfolio of activities and you may assemble your own tour program according to your interests and abilities. On all your excursions, you will be accompanied by a community guide and an expert naturalist guide.
Sample itinerary of a 3-day/2-night tour at Mashpi Lodge:
All tours start with the pick-up from one of the main hotels in Quito at around 8:30 AM. By Mashpi transportation, you leave Quito city to the north and then, travel downhill to the west. As you descend, you can admire how the vegetation around you changes. After about two hours, we continue our journey along winding country roads, entering the dense cloud forest and finally arriving at Mashpi Lodge at noon.
Upon arrival, you will enjoy a delicious lunch and afterwards, you will be shown to your room. Your jungle experience starts in the afternoon, for example with a hike into the primary forest followed by a tour with Mashpi’s unique Dragonfly cable car through the forest canopy.
As soon as the sun has set, you venture with your guides into the forest to search for frogs, snakes, insects and spiders during an exciting night walk.
Your second day at Mashpi Lodge could start with some bird watching from the panoramic terrace at sunrise. How about hiking through the jungle to a waterfall and bathing in its fresh water after breakfast? Alternatively, you could visit the hummingbird garden or the Life Centre’s butterflies.
After lunch, you could get a close look at the canopy taking a trip on the Sky Bike, pedaling 200 meters through the air over a ravine. This activity could be followed by a visit to the observation tower to enjoy a nice view over the Mashpi Reserve and watch the sun going down.
In the evening, you can attend an interesting lecture about the Chocó ecosystem or Mashpi’s scientific projects given by one of the naturalists or a resident biologist.
On your last day, you will head ones more into the forest to collect memories of this unique place. At 11:30 AM your transportation will be ready to take you back to Quito. You will be given a complimentary box lunch to enjoy during the journey from the lush forest back to the heights of the Ecuadorian capital.
