Suarez Point at the western coast of Española Island is one of the Galapagos highlights because of the abundance of unique wildlife. The high number of endemic species is easily explained by the isolated location of Española Island. During the hike along the rocky cliffs, you can observe one of the largest colonies of blue-footed boobies and Nazca boobies. Another highlight are the colorful marine iguanas. Their turquoise and red colorings are especially noticeable during the mating season. If you visit Punta Suárez from April to December, you will also be able to see the waved albatross. Almost all breeding pairs of this huge sea bird come to Española Island for courtship, mating, and breeding. |
