The volcano Sierra Negra in the south of Isabela Island is one of the most active ones in the Galapagos Islands. With a diameter of 10 km, Sierra Negra Volcano has one of the largest calderas in the world. After a 45-minute drive from Puerto Villamil, you arrive at the departure point for the hike to one of the viewpoints. It is often cloudy, but if you are lucky you have a great view of the caldera, Chico Volcano and the surrounding landscapes including other volcanoes. Keep your eyes open for finches and the Galapagos vermilion flycatcher. |
