At the highlands of Santa Cruz, you can observe giant tortoises in their natural habitat. It is a great spot to take pictures with these gentle giants. In contrast to the arid coastal areas of Santa Cruz, the vegetation in the highlands is lush and dominated by the endemic Scalesia forest. Apart from the giant tortoises, you can also spot Galapagos finches and other birds.
Another interesting and more adventurous site in the highlands are the lava tunnels that you can walk through.
